The course examines the working methods and challenges involved in the critical edition of musical texts, in the light of modern editorial practice and techniques. The focus of study and the primary repertoire for lectures and practical sessions is the music of composers from the 18th and 19th centuries, with particular attention to opera.
The course is aimed at students and scholars with a musical background and basic knowledge of music philology, who wish to acquire specific skills and, in the future, to engage in the editorial projects currently underway. It is also intended to serve as a forum for discussion on working methods, current editorial approaches and the outcomes of philology applied to musical texts.
