Le sonate per strumento a tastiera di Giuseppe Sarti: catalogo tematico

Abstract

Giuseppe Sarti (Faenza 1729-Berlino 1802), pur dedicandosi principalmente al melodramma, ci ha lasciato un buon numero di composizioni per tastiera (per organo, per clavicembalo o fortepiano con o senza uno strumento melodico di accompagnamento o concertante). Il catalogo, che fornisce per ogni sonata incipit musicali, fonti manoscritte e a stampa, edizioni moderne, note e bibliografia, è stato diviso in tre sezioni: sonate per tastiera e altri strumenti, sonate per tastiera, sonate dubbie. Sono state considerate dubbie le sonate pubblicate a Vienna da Artaria negli anni Ottanta del Settecento: tradizionalmente attribuite al compositore faentino, sono probabilmente da ascrivere – secondo la documentazione reperita da Richard Armbruster – al Klaviermeister Giuseppe Sardi, attivo a Vienna nel periodo 1785-1788. Nel saggio introduttivo si rende ragione di questa scelta, e si forniscono alcune osservazioni sulle caratteristiche musicali delle sonate.

The keyboard sonatas of Giuseppe Sarti: a thematic catalogue

Although Giuseppe Sarti (b. Faenza 1729, d. Berlin 1802) devoted himself chiefly to opera, he also left us a good number of keyboard sonatas (for organ, harpsichord or fortepiano with or without accompanying or concertante melodic instrument). Each sonata is catalogued with full details: musical incipits, manuscript or printed sources, modern editions, notes and bibliography. The catalogue is divided into three sections: sonatas for keyboard and other instruments, sonatas for keyboard, doubtful sonatas. The sonatas considered doubtful are those published by Artaria at Vienna during the Eighties of the eighteenth century, traditionally attributed to the composer from Faenza but more probably ascribable – according to documentation discovered by Richard Armbruster – to the Klaviermeister Giuseppe Sardi who was active in Vienna during the period 1785-1788. The reasons for this decision are given in the introduction to this paper, which also includes some comments on the musical characteristics of the sonatas.
