La Kaisersammlung: Franz I/II come musicista e collezionista

Abstract

La Kaisersammlung, ovvero la biblioteca musicale privata dell'imperatore d'Austria Francesco II/I, rimase per molto tempo sconosciuta. Quando venne alla luce, fu donata allo Steiermärkischer Musikverein di Graz, dopo aver consentito a Carl Ferdinand Pohl di scegliere degli esemplari per la Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde di  Vienna. Negli anni 30 del Novecento, la raccolta fu trasferita di nuovo a Vienna. I documenti relativi alle acquisizioni originali (compresi corrispondenza, diari e ricevute), sono oggi conservati nello Haus- Hof- und Staatsarchiv a Vienna. Uno studio dei resoconti mensili nello Handarchiv di Francesco per gli anni 1784-1791 rivela molto dei suoi interessi musicali negli anni della sua formazione, quando risiedeva a Vienna sotto la tutela di Giuseppe II, anni in cui si sposò due volte e partecipò alla guerra austro-turca.

The ‘Kaisersammlung’: Franz II/I as Musician and Collector

The Kaisersammlung, the private musical library of Emperor Franz II / I, was hidden from view for many years. When it came to light, it was donated to the Steiermärkischer Musikverein in Graz, once Carl Ferdinand Pohl had been allowed to select items for the Vienna Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde. In the 1930s, the collection was transferred back to Vienna. Sources relating to its original acquisition, comprising correspondence, diaries and accounts, are now held in the Haus- Hof- und Staatsarchiv in Vienna. A study of the monthly accounts in the Handarchiv of Franz for the years 1784 to 1791 reveals much about his musical interests during the formative period of his life, when he resided in Vienna under the instruction of Joseph II, marrying twice and participating in the Austro-Turkish War.
