Notice for the SIdM Award for the best degree thesis

Second edition 2022

 

The Italian Society of Musicology (SIdM) advertises, for the year 2022, the SIdM Award for the best degree thesis obtained in Italian and foreign universities and conservatories of music. The prize will be the publication of the dissertation in the series “Percorsi” (SIdM/Anthology Digital Publishing).

 

1.  Requirements for the participation in the call

Participation in the call is reserved for SIdM members who have obtained a specialist/master's degree in musicological disciplines at any Italian or foreign university or a second level academic diploma in musicological disciplines at any music conservatory or equivalent foreign institution. Apart from the affiliation to the musicological field (an indispensable requirement), there are no chronological or repertoire limitations to the subject treated.

The required degree must have been obtained no earlier than the academic year 2018-19.

 

2.  Procedures and terms for submitting the application form

The application must be submitted within the peremptory deadline of May 15, 2022 to the following addresses:

The application, on plain paper and drawn up according to the attached model (Annex 1), must contain the following information:

  • name and surname;
  • personal data;
  • thesis title;
  • date and place of discussion;
  • e-mail address (which will be used exclusively for any communication relating to this announcement) and telephone number.

 

Under penalty of exclusion, the following documentation must also be attached to the application:

  • copy of the thesis in pdf format conforming to the original;
    copy of the degree certificate or second level academic diploma or equivalent qualification obtained abroad;
  • annex 2;
  • annex 3;
  • copy of a valid identity document;
  • annex 4.

 

The applications that do not fully meet the requirements will not be considered. The Participation implies full agreement of the competitors on the acceptance of this regulation. 

  

3.  Responsibilities of the participants

Participating in the competition, you authorize the dissemination through the press or through the social media channels of the SIdM of all information relating to the winning of the SIdM Award and of various extracts of the thesis and / or subsequent monograph for promotional purposes. The editorial copyright of the monograph will be owned by the publisher and may not be transferred to third parties.
It is the responsibility of the authors to obtain permission from copyright holders and to pay any costs, and to ensure that the use of images, data and illustrations in the chapters do not violate copyright laws.

 

4.  SIdM Award

The prize consists in the publication of the thesis in the series “Percorsi” (SIdM/Anthology Digital Publishing). The winner undertakes to submit his/her work in its final rendering ready for publication to the Board of the SIdM and to the scientific committee of the series no later than May 31, 2023.

 

5.  Scholarship award procedure

The scholarship will be awarded through the unquestionable judgment of a Commission designated by the Board of the SIdM and composed of scholars of the disciplinary fields related to the theses received. The SIdM website will communicate the formation of the Commission and of its members.

The evaluation of the works will be based on the degree of innovation, originality and scientific perspectives of the thesis presented.

The Commission may not award the prize if, in its exclusive opinion, the adequate quality level is not reached. The Commission's judgment is unquestionable.

The winner will be notified of the awarding of the prize by e-mail, to the address indicated in the application form.

The outcome of the competition will be announced on the SIdM website too.

 

6.  Treatment of personal data

The processing of personal data collected for the purposes identified in this announcement will be treated in compliance with the provisions of the EU Regulation of April 27, 2016, n. 679 (General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR).
