XXXIII Annual Conference of the Italian Society of Musicology

Submit the abstract for the annual conference

Palermo, 23-25 October 2026

CALL FOR PAPERS

The XXXIII Annual Conference of the Italian Musicological Society (SIdM) will take place in Palermo, Chiaromonte (Steri) Palace, from 23 to 25 October 2026, in collaboration with the University of Palermo. The Society’s annual members’ meeting will be held during the conference.

The SIdM Annual Conference provides an important forum for scholarly exchange among musicologists. In addition to traditional paper presentations, the 2026 conference will also include a poster session dedicated to ongoing research projects, offering additional opportunities for participation.

Paper Proposals

Scholars are invited to submit proposals on any area of musicological research, including historical, theoretical, analytical, systematic, and ethnomusicological perspectives, as well as research on contemporary musical culture.

Submissions in both Italian and English are welcome.

Each proposal should include:

  • name
  • title of the paper
  • abstract (max. 2.400 characters, including spaces) outlining the research topic, objectives, and contribution
  • short curriculum vitae (max. 1.200 characters, including spaces)
  • contact information (email, phone number, postal address)

Individual presentations will last 20 minutes (approximately 14.000 characters of written text). All conference rooms will be equipped with a computer and projection facilities.

Proposals must be submitted via the online form. Submissions sent through other channels will not be considered.

Priority will be given to proposals from scholars who did not present at the previous SIdM Annual Conference. Panel proposals are accepted only from SIdM research groups: https://sidm.it/gruppi-di-ricerca-sidm/

Poster Proposals

Poster presentations provide an opportunity to share ongoing research projects and discuss their content, methods, and objectives with conference participants in a more informal and interactive setting.

Poster proposals should include the same information required for paper submissions (name, contact details, title, abstract, CV).

If accepted, presenters are responsible for printing their poster (maximum size 70×100 cm) and bringing it to the conference venue. Posters will be displayed in a dedicated area for the entire duration of the conference.

Submission and Deadlines

Proposals for papers and posters must be submitted via the online form by 2 June 2026.

Notification of acceptance will be sent by 6 July 2026.

Each scholar may submit one proposal only (either a paper or a poster).
