Federico Volpe was born in Pescara (Italy) in 1998. He holds a BA degree in Piano from the Conservatorio “L. D’Annunzio” of Pescara, an MA degree in Piano from the Conservatorio “G. B. Martini” of Bologna (2020), and an MA degree in History and Oriental Studies from the Università “Alma Mater Studiorum” of Bologna (2021). He studied Conducting at Accademia Internazionale of Imola, Fondazione Teatro “C. Coccia” of Novara, and Associazione “Spazio Musica” of Genoa-Orvieto. In addition to some experience as a concert pianist and a conductor, he has worked as a Music teacher at Scuola Secondaria di I grado “C. Pepoli” in Bologna and as a free-lance consultant for the music program Il ridotto dell’opera, broadcast by the Suisse radio RSI. He is currently attending a PhD course in Studies and Practices of the Arts (in the field of musicology) at the University of Quebec in Montreal and he is teacher of History of Italian Opera at the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal. He is a member of the Società Italiana di Musicologia (SIdM), of the Observatoire Interdisciplinaire de Création et de Recherche en Musique (OICRM) and of the Société Québécoise de Recherche en Musique (SQRM).

 

Research Areas

The history of the ballad as a literary and musical genre; the representation of non-western civilizations in the European music, focusing on the relationship between opera and the Islamic world; the natural world represented in the history of music, art and literature.
