The Italian Society of Musicology is launching the fifth edition of the SIdM Prize, awarded to the best theses in musicological disciplines defended at universities and conservatoires in Italy and abroad. The prize consists of the publication of the winning thesis in the SIdM/Anthology Digital Publishing series “Percorsi”.
1. Eligibility requirements
Members who have obtained a master’s degree (or specialist degree, or single-cycle degree) from an Italian or foreign university, or a Level II academic diploma from a music conservatoire or equivalent foreign institution, are eligible to enter the 2025 edition of the SIdM Prize. An essential condition for entry into the competition is that the thesis must fall within the field of musicology, with no restrictions regarding the subject matter or methodological approach.
Theses defended no earlier than the 2021–22 academic year are eligible for the 2025 edition of the competition.
2. Procedures and deadline for submitting the application

3. Obligations of participants
By entering the competition, you authorise the SIdM to publish, via the press or its social media channels, all information relating to the award of the SIdM Prize, as well as various extracts from the thesis and/or the subsequent monograph, for promotional purposes. The publishing copyright of the monograph shall be the property of the publisher and may not be transferred to third parties. It is the author’s responsibility to ensure that the use of images, data and illustrations in the chapters does not infringe copyright laws and that authorisation to reproduce them has been obtained from the relevant rights holders.
The prize will consist of the publication of the winning thesis in the SIdM/Anthology Digital Publishing ‘Percorsi’ series.
4. The SIdM Award
The prize will consist of the publication of the winning thesis in the “Percorsi” series by SIdM/Anthology Digital Publishing.
5. Procedure for awarding the prize
The award is granted, following a peer-review selection process, by a Selection Committee appointed by the SIdM Executive Committee and comprising scholars of recognised standing. The SIdM website will announce the formation of the Selection Committee and the names of its members. The assessment will be based on the degree of innovation and originality, as well as on the scientific prospects and implications of the thesis submitted. The judging panel reserves the right not to award the prize if, in its sole discretion, the required standard of quality is not met. The panel’s decision is final.
The winner will be notified of the award by email, at the address provided in the application form. The outcome of the selection process will also be published on the website www.sidm.it, and the awards and honourable mentions will be announced during the general meeting to be held during the 32nd Annual Conference of the Italian Society of Musicology, taking place in Turin from 24 to 26 October 2025. The winners must be present at the time of the announcement.
