Pesaro, “G. Rossini” State Conservatory of Music, 30 October 2025
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Marchigian composer Mezio Agostini (1875–1944), the Rossini Conservatory of Pesaro, under the patronage of ARIM, the Centro Studi Mezio Agostini, the Rossini Foundation, IAML International, and the Italian Society of Musicology (SIdM), is pleased to invite scholars to submit paper proposals for the Mezio Agostini Conference.
Throughout its long history, the Rossini Conservatory has trained students who went on to pursue artistic, teaching, and conservatory leadership careers, thus playing an important role in the national and international musical landscape. Mezio Agostini was first a student and later a teacher at the Rossini; in 1909 he moved to the Venice Musical Institute as director, a position he held until 1940.
The conference will include papers on biographical aspects and on Mezio Agostini’s compositional writing, while also considering the historical and compositional context in which the composer lived.
The scientific committee intends to include open-topic papers in the programme; among others, proposals on the following themes will be especially welcome:
- Mezio Agostini’s relationship with contemporary composers
- Mezio Agostini’s contribution to the Venetian cello school
- Mezio Agostini as an opera composer
The official languages of the conference are Italian and English. Proposals must include:
- title of the paper
- abstract in Word format (doc/docx), maximum length 25 lines
- short curriculum vitae of the proposer in Word format (doc/docx), maximum length 15 lines
- list of any technical equipment required for the presentation
- contact details (email, telephone, residence) and, where applicable, institutional affiliation
Papers must not exceed 20 minutes in length.
Proposals must be sent no later than 20 July 2025 to the following email address: f.perrotta@conservatoriorossini.it
