The Musicological Teaching section of the Italian Society of Musicology is promoting a webinar dedicated to musical heritage during the period of social isolation caused by Covid-19.
Our musical heritage requires greater attention and more careful consideration on the part of the institutions responsible for its protection: the field of musical heritage must be given dignity and prominence. Even today, this field still lacks a specific regulatory framework within the cultural heritage system of our country. During the current pandemic, we are compelled to rethink the ways in which our cultural heritage—especially our musical heritage—can be accessed, making use of the means provided by modern technology: digital portals, databases, and tools for communication and remote access. At this stage, continuity of planning is essential in order to support future recovery and to prevent musical heritage from being relegated to the category of non-immediate necessities, above all in view of the educational and formative implications that would result from such neglect.
