Berio: Labyrinths in Music. International conference

Milan, G. Verdi Conservatory of Music, 21–22 November 2025

Conference organized by the G. Verdi Conservatory of Music of Milan under the patronage of the Italian Society of Musicology.

On the centenary of Luciano Berio’s birth, we invite scholars, researchers, and musicians to submit proposals exploring the many dimensions of his creative career.

In particular, we encourage contributions on the following themes:

  • Spaces of meaning: literature, theatre, theatricality, intermediality, multimedia
  • Thinking music: explicit and implicit aesthetics and poetics
  • Other voices: encounters with different cultures and musics; rewriting, rereading, and translating music
  • Interpreting Berio: languages and the performative dimension; Berio’s relationship with performers, voices, instruments, and electronics

Deadline: 30 April
Notification: 15 May
Languages: Italian and English
There is no registration fee.

Proposals should be between 400 and 500 words, to which should be added a short bibliography (maximum 5 references). Proposals must be sent as .doc or .rtf files to the following email address: berioconference@consmilano.it.

Presentations should last between 20 and 25 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of discussion.
